Work at Web & Rank
We are a small team building websites and the automation behind them for service businesses in five countries. We hire slowly, we pay you for your time when we test you, and we tell you where you stand at every step. Open roles are below. If none of them fit, the last section is for you.
What working here is actually like
Four things that are true of this team, written the way we would say them on a call rather than the way a careers page usually says them.
Remote, and actually remote
Nobody is counting the hours you are online. What matters is that the work ships and that you are reachable for a few hours that overlap the rest of the team. We are already spread across three countries, so this is not an experiment we are running on you.
You own whole projects, not tickets
You get a client, a problem and the room to decide how to solve it. That cuts both ways: you present the result, and you answer for it in the month where the number does not move.
We say no to work
We turn down projects we do not think will work and we tell clients when they are buying the wrong thing. You will be expected to do the same, which is a great deal easier than the alternative.
A small team and no layers
There is no account manager translating between you and the client, and nobody writing strategy slides about work somebody else does. You will speak to the people paying the invoice.
Where we actually need somebody
We only list a role when the work is already there. If something is on this page, it is real and we are moving on it now rather than collecting CVs for later.
Four steps, about two weeks
You will know where you stand after every one of them. If a stage is going to take longer than we said, we will tell you why rather than going quiet.
You email us
A short note about why this role, and a link to something you have actually done. No cover letter theatre, and no application form with nineteen fields.
A thirty minute call
Mostly us asking how you think about the work, and you asking whatever you want about us. Camera optional, and we will not ask where you see yourself in five years.
A paid test task
A small, real piece of work scoped to a few hours, and we pay your normal rate for it. We are not getting free work out of candidates, and you learn as much about us from it as we do about you.
An offer, or a straight no
Either way you hear back with a reason. If it is a no, we will tell you what tipped it, because a rejection with no information is useless to you.
Three things we will not do to you
Recruiting has a low bar, and clearing it is mostly a matter of not behaving badly. Here is what that means in practice.
No unpaid test work
If we ask you to do something real, we pay for it at your rate. A test task that quietly ships to a client without payment is theft with extra steps.
No silence
Every application gets a reply, including the ones that are a clear no. Most of us have been on the other side of that and it costs ten minutes to do properly.
No pretending the job is bigger than it is
We are a small agency, not a rocket ship, and the role you read is the role you get. Where the work involves unglamorous parts, the listing says so.
No role that fits?
Tell us what you are good at and what you want to be doing in a year, and attach something you made rather than a CV full of adjectives. Good speculative applications get kept and we come back to them when something opens.
