Wix design and development

A Wix expert who will tell you when to stay and when to go

Two kinds of people call us about Wix. Ones who want their site doing more, and ones who have hit the ceiling and need out without losing what they have built. We handle both, for clients across the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and we will say plainly which one you are.

Two reasons people call us about Wix

Both are legitimate. The expensive mistake is picking the wrong one, either rebuilding a site that only needed tidying, or spending two more years patching something that will never do what you need.

Make the Wix site work harder

The platform is fine for what you need. The site just was not built to do a job, and if it was thrown together with Wix ADI and never revisited that is usually the whole problem. Fixable inside Wix, and usually quickly.

Get off Wix properly

You have outgrown it and every workaround costs more than the last. Leaving is straightforward if the URLs and content are handled with care.

It usually lands on WordPress, sometimes Shopify, and we run it as a migration project rather than a rebuild in the dark.

Straight answer

What Wix can and cannot do

Wix is genuinely good at what it is for, and any Wix expert who tells you otherwise is selling you a rebuild. It is a closed platform though, and the things it will not let you do are not going to change because you asked nicely.

Fine on Wix: a good looking site under about twenty pages, Wix Bookings for appointments, Wix Stores for modest ecommerce, Wix Payments, a small blog, and a team who want to edit without breaking anything. The App Market covers most of the rest.

Not fine on Wix: full control over page speed and Core Web Vitals, complex content types, hundreds of products with unusual rules, deep integrations with other systems, owning your code, or moving to another host later without a rebuild. You are on a premium plan paying for it either way, so the question is what you get for it.

If you are somewhere in the middle, Wix Studio is worth a look before you conclude you have to leave. It gives designers far more control than the classic editor and it is often enough.

How getting off Wix actually goes

Four steps. The third one is the one that protects everything you have already earned.

01

Take stock

Every page, every URL, every form and where its submissions go. Wix hides some of this, so it gets done by crawling the live site rather than trusting the dashboard.

02

Rebuild the content

Wix has no clean export, so pages get rebuilt on the new platform. Tedious, and the moment to drop the pages nobody has read in two years.

03

Map the URLs

Old address to new address, one 301 redirect each. This is the step that decides whether your search traffic survives, and the one most rebuilds skip.

04

Move without downtime

New site checked on the new server first, DNS TTL lowered, then the switch. Email records copied before anything is touched.

Either way

What you get before you commit to anything

We will look at the site and tell you which of the two conversations you are actually having. That part is free and you can take the answer elsewhere.

A straight recommendation

Stay on Wix, move to Wix Studio, or leave. In writing, with the reasoning, so you can argue with it.

What it would cost either way

Both numbers, so you are comparing rather than guessing. Including the cost of doing nothing for another year.

No push to rebuild

Rebuilds are bigger projects and better for us. That is exactly why we will tell you when you do not need one.

Stay or go?

Yes. Working as a Wix web designer means redesigns inside Wix, restructuring pages, speed and metadata work, forms and booking, tracking setup and training your team to keep it going. Some of it is quick and cheap, which we will tell you rather than bundling it into something larger.

No, and that reputation is a few years out of date. Wix handles titles, metadata, sitemaps and structured data perfectly well now. What you cannot do is control page speed the way you can on a platform you own, and that is a real ceiling on competitive terms. For a local business ranking locally, Wix is rarely the thing holding you back.

Only if you have a specific reason. Good reasons: you need integrations it will not do, your catalogue has outgrown it, speed is genuinely costing you, or you want to own your code. Bad reason: somebody told you Wix is unprofessional. Your customers do not know or care what it is built on.

Not if every old URL is mapped to its new home before the switch. That single step is what protects the traffic, and it is the one that gets skipped when a rebuild is treated as a design project. We handle it as a migration, which is a different discipline.

It is Wix’s more capable editor, aimed at designers and agencies, with real responsive control, reusable components and CMS collections. If you like Wix but keep hitting the limits of the classic editor, it is worth trying before concluding you have to leave the platform entirely.

Small fixes and tuning are a fixed price and usually modest, whether you want a redesign or just to hire Wix developers for an afternoon. A redesign inside Wix is a small project. Moving off Wix is a migration and priced as one, because rebuilding the content is the bulk of the work. You get both numbers before deciding.

Sometimes, when it is the right answer: a small site, no technical person in house, and budget that matters more than ceiling. If any of those are not true we will suggest something else and explain why. See how we choose a platform before anything gets designed.
