WordPress development agency that also keeps the site running
Web & Rank builds custom WordPress sites for businesses in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, then handles the updates, security and speed work that keep them earning. We have delivered 150+ sites since 2018 and hold a 4.9 rating from 2,800+ client reviews.
WordPress runs 40.7% of the web, which is also why it gets attacked
Choosing WordPress is not the risk. Leaving it alone is. Almost every site we are called in to rescue was perfectly fine on launch day and then went two years without an update.
Of all websites run on WordPress, and 58.9% of every site built on a CMS. Shopify is next at 5.3%. Source: W3Techs, September 2026.
New vulnerabilities found across WordPress plugins, themes and core during 2025, up 42% on the 7,966 found the year before. Source: Patchstack.
Of those vulnerabilities came from plugins, and 46% were public before a patch existed.
So the job is bigger than building the site. It is choosing plugins carefully, patching them on a schedule, and being reachable at nine at night when a checkout stops taking money.
Seven things we do with WordPress
Our WordPress development services split into seven areas. Most clients arrive with one of them and stay for two or three, and each has its own page with the detail. If you are not sure which you need, start with all our services or just ask.
New WordPress website development, and rebuilds of sites that have stopped pulling their weight. Custom design your team can edit without breaking it.
Hacked site cleaned, the way in closed, and the reinfection routes removed. Then hardening so it does not happen twice.
Core Web Vitals work on real pages rather than a synthetic score. Caching, images, database, and the plugins quietly costing you a second.
Updates tested on staging before they touch your live site, daily backups, uptime monitoring and a person who answers.
White screens, 500 errors, forms that stopped sending, a layout that moved after an update. Fix what you need fixed, no retainer required.
Host moves, domain changes, and replatforming from Wix, Squarespace or Webflow, with redirects mapped so the rankings survive the move.
Once the site is built it still has to be found. Rank Math or Yoast configured properly, schema that validates, and the page builder bloat that keeps your scores red. Search work by people who already know the platform.
What we actually build inside WordPress
WordPress is a CMS, not a template you fill in. This is the work that sits behind a build, and it is what separates a WordPress development company from somebody who installs a theme and hands you the login.

Two ways a WordPress project starts with us
Roughly half of our WordPress work is a new build. The other half is a site that already exists and needs somebody to take it seriously.
Plan and content map
Keyword research, a page map, and a clear answer to what each page has to do. Content starts here because it is always the slow part.
Design, then build
Design signed off before a line of code, then built on staging where you can click through it while it happens.
Launch and handover
Redirects, analytics, a walkthrough of the editor, and every login in your name.
Audit
Plugins, PHP version, speed, security and backups. You get a written list of what is safe to update and what will break.
Fix in order
Whatever is costing money first, then the rest on a schedule you approve. No surprise invoices.
Keep it that way
A care plan if you want us on it, or a handover document if you would rather run it in house.
Four things we will not do to your site
Choosing a WordPress agency is mostly about what they refuse to do. These four come up on every handover call, so they are worth saying out loud first.
Install nulled plugins
Pirated copies of premium plugins are the most common way we find a WordPress site infected, and cleaning one up costs more than the licence ever would.
Edit straight on live
Changes go to staging, get looked at, then go live. Production is not a text editor.
Bolt on forty plugins
Every plugin is code somebody else maintains, and 91% of last year’s vulnerabilities came from plugins. Fewer and better maintained is the entire strategy.
Lock you in
You own the domain, the hosting, the site and the logins. If you leave, nothing breaks and nothing needs unpicking.
What the work has been worth
Three WordPress projects, with the numbers the clients measured themselves. Every case study on the site shows the work behind the figure.
More booking enquiries within 30 days of launch. Residential cleaning service, new WordPress site with online booking and an instant quote calculator, built in three weeks.
Website visitors. Glass and aluminium company in Australia, full rebuild and new design.
Traffic and lead volume. Commercial cleaning group in Australia, custom site plus twelve months of local SEO.

WordPress questions, answered straight
Not sure which one you need?
Tell us what is broken or what you want to build. We will point you at the right service on a short call, even if it is not us who does it.
How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer?
It comes down to three things: how many unique page templates you need, whether you are selling online, and what has to talk to what. A brochure site with six templates is a different job to a WooCommerce store wired into a CRM. We quote a fixed price per project after a call, 50% up front and 50% on delivery, and ongoing work is a monthly retainer rather than hourly.
How long does a WordPress site take to build?
A standard business site is usually three to six weeks from content sign-off. WooCommerce stores run six to twelve weeks, because products, shipping rules and tax take longer than pages do. Fixes and migrations are days rather than weeks. Content is nearly always what sets the date, so we start it first.
Is WordPress outdated in 2026?
No. It runs 40.7% of all websites and 58.9% of sites built on a CMS (W3Techs, September 2026), and it ships three major releases a year. WordPress 7.0 arrived in May 2026 and 7.2 is due in December. Block themes, the Site Editor and the block editor are a long way from the WordPress people remember from 2015.
Why are people moving away from WordPress?
Two honest reasons. Simple sites that never needed a CMS now go to Shopify or Wix, which is fair enough. And the Automattic and WP Engine dispute, still in court, made some agencies nervous about who controls the ecosystem. The third reason is self inflicted: a neglected site stuffed with plugins feels broken, so people blame the platform. That one is fixable.
What are the top WordPress development agencies?
Nobody can honestly claim that title, and most pages ranking for it are directories that charge for placement. Three things worth asking any agency: who does the work and where they sit, what happens the day after launch, and whether they can show you a site they built three years ago that is still fast. Ask us the same questions.
Can you take over a WordPress site somebody else built?
Yes, and that is most of our WordPress work. We start with an audit of plugins, PHP version, speed, security and backups, then hand you a written list of what is safe to change and what will break. The list is yours whether or not you hire us to do the fixes.
Which countries do you work with?
Clients across the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, from offices in Sheridan Wyoming, Musselburgh in Scotland, and Multan. Between the three we cover most working hours, which matters on the day a site goes down.
Who owns the site, the code and the logins?
You do, from day one. Domain, hosting, WordPress admin, plugin licences and the code all sit in your name, and we work inside your accounts rather than holding the site in ours.
Tell us what you need and we will show you how we would do it
Share a few details about your business and what you want to fix or build. It could be a new website, a WordPress site that keeps breaking, SEO that has stalled, or a sales process that needs automating. We will come back with honest advice, even if that means a smaller job than you expected.
A reply within one business day
A real person on the team reads your message and replies, usually the same day.
A free review of your current setup
We look at your website, rankings or systems before we talk, so the call is useful.
A written proposal
You get a clear scope, timeline and price in writing before any work starts.
