Shopify design and development

Shopify experts for stores that have stopped growing

Traffic is fine and the number at the bottom is not moving. That is usually the theme, the app stack or the checkout, and it is rarely mysterious once somebody looks properly. We build and fix Shopify stores for clients across the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

What we do

What Shopify experts actually get asked for

Six things, in roughly the order stores ask for them.

New store builds

Catalogue structure, theme, payments, shipping and tax set up once, properly, so you are not fighting it in year two.

Conversion work

Product pages, cart and checkout worked on in that order, because that is where the money leaks. Changes measured, not guessed.

Theme development

Shopify web design that starts from a premium theme and tunes it, or builds one in Shopify’s Online Store 2.0 sections so your team can rearrange pages without us. Metafields for the content that varies by product, and Liquid where it has to be custom.

App audits

Most stores are paying for apps that duplicate each other and cost a second of load time each. We cut the list and keep the function.

Migrations

Onto Shopify from WooCommerce, Magento or a hand built store, with URLs mapped so the rankings come with you.

Custom work

Bundles, subscriptions, B2B pricing and anything that needs Shopify Functions or a private app rather than another app subscription. On Shopify Plus that extends to checkout, and Hydrogen if you genuinely need headless.

The theme question

Buy it, tune it, or build it

Three honest options with three different price tags. Most stores should pick the middle one and most agencies will push you to the third.

Buy

A premium theme, as it comes

A few hundred dollars and live in a fortnight. You accept its layout decisions and its app dependencies.

Tune

A premium theme, properly worked

Start from something solid, then rebuild the pages that matter: product, collection, cart. Where most of the gain is.

Build

A theme from scratch

Worth it when the brand is the product and nothing off the shelf gets close. Slower, and you maintain it forever.

The honest bit

Apps are a tax you pay twice

Once on the monthly bill, and again on every page load. A store running fifteen apps is usually paying two or three hundred dollars a month and carrying a second of extra load time for functions that overlap.

We go through the list with you and sort it into three piles: earning its keep, duplicating something else, and could be forty lines of theme code instead. Then we remove things carefully, because half of them have their hooks in your product pages and a careless uninstall leaves orphan code behind.

It is not glamorous work and it routinely pays for itself in the first month. The same goes for the email platform: Klaviyo earns its fee when the flows are built properly and is dead weight when they are not.

Store not converting?

Send us the URL. We will go through the product page, the cart and the app list and tell you the three things costing you the most.

It depends whether you need a build, a fix or ongoing work. A focused conversion job on product and cart pages is a small fixed price. A full store build with migration and custom functionality is a project. Ongoing work is a monthly retainer. We quote after looking at the store, and if the honest answer is that your theme is fine and the problem is traffic, we will say that.

Shopify’s own partner directory is the obvious place and it is worth using, whether you want an agency or would rather hire Shopify developers directly. The things to check anywhere you look: do they show stores they actually built, will they name what they would change before you pay, and do they talk about your numbers rather than their process. Ask us the same questions.

Yes, and it is a sensible arrangement once a store is turning over enough that an outage costs real money. That usually covers theme and app updates, new product and collection pages, seasonal campaigns, checkout testing and keeping an eye on speed.

For selling physical products, yes. You are renting reliability: checkout, payments, fraud handling and scaling on someone else’s infrastructure. What you give up is ownership and monthly fees that grow with apps. If content and search are your main channels rather than the storefront, WordPress with WooCommerce is worth comparing.

Yes. Plus is worth it once checkout control, higher volume or B2B pricing matter, and it is expensive before that point. It gives you checkout extensibility and Shopify Functions for custom discount and shipping logic. We also set up Shopify Payments, and Markets where you are selling across borders and need multi-currency pricing and local payment methods.

Shopify if selling is the business and you want the plumbing handled. WooCommerce if content brings the customers, you want to own everything, or your pricing and shipping rules are unusual enough that Shopify fights you. We build both and have no reason to prefer one.

Yes, from WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce or a hand built store. Products, variants, customers and order history come across, and every old URL gets mapped to its new home so search rankings survive the move.

Usually, and it is normally the cheaper answer. We will read it first and tell you honestly whether it is worth building on. If a previous developer has left it in a state where every change risks breaking something else, we will say so rather than quietly charging you to work around it.
